It's gone from wet and rainy to hot !
Here's the highlights from June...
We went to a rugby game in Santa Clara and watched the NZ Maori's kick USA arse !!! 64 - 8. Damn it was good. In fact it was so good we started feeling sorry for the US team and felt like the NZ Maoris should let them get a couple of tries..... nahhhhhh bugga that....
We sat with the kiwi club - there was about 25 of us waving our flags proudly.
At one point one of the US fans decided to try and rally the crowd by chanting U-S-A, U-S-A, unfortunately he got his geography wrong and realised too late that he had positioned himself on the edge of the kiwi supporters who drowned him out with Kiiiiwwwiiiii !! Kiiiiiwwwwiii !!
The US supporters weren't in much of a rallying mood at that stage of the game, so he ended up sitting down after some friendly bantering with us.
Manu started working on a project in Phoenix on June 26th. He says it's bloody hot out there and spends his days avoiding the heat by sheltering in the air conditioning. He's there for a month then he'll be working from Portland Oregon for a month. He's loving the work because it's challenging and he's learning lots. It's a nice change from proposal work which is hard and lacks rewards.
We've started playing the board game Settlers of Catan every week with our friends Goce & Stacey. Call us geeks but that game is addictive !! grab a couple of wines, some snacks and we can play for 4 hours without blinking an eye. We've now progressed to Seafarers of Catan which is an expansion of the first game - heaps of fun - plus a great excuse to crack open a bottle of wine.
Independence weekend rolled around at the end of June, so we took the opportunity to take a trip down to Cabo San Lucas Mexico. We stayed at the Melia Hotel, which turned out to be geared towards trendy young singles. What gave us that impression ?? it wasn't the gorgeous tanned young bodies showing off around the pool, it wasn't even the scantily clad girls who danced beside the pool in the afternoons - it was the DJ who pumped music around the hotel from 9am to 2am. God we felt old !
We did enjoy ourselves though, we frolicked, sauntered and lounged for 4 glorious days. We caught up with friends from San Francisco and went on a boat ride out to 'the arch' (doesn't every country have one of them ??!), then we went snorkelling out at Lovers Beach (which is right beside Divorce beach - true story).
On our way back into the country we got detained by Homeland Security because Anita forgot to bring the passport that had her resident visa in it. So we spent the best part of an hour explaining that it was a mistake and we were legitimately allowed to be in the country. Luckily our Social Security numbers checked out or they might have sent us back to Mexico ! (not that we'd have minded)
So we're back on US soil and into July - god this year has gone by fast.
That's all from us for now, we'd love to hear from those who read our blog, so feel free to post comments if you feel inclined. You don't need to sign up if you post the comment as anonymous.
Till next time dear readers....
Anita & Manu
