Dec 2005 Update

Hey there,
welcome to the new place :) As you can see below all our old posts have been moved from the msn groups site. Please let us know the good, bad and ugly.

The past 2 months have been a very busy time for us, not only did we go home for Christmas, and our wedding (yay!) but then we had to come back and settle back into 'normal' life and work (boo) once again. Here are the details of our NZ visit:

We left San Francisco on the 9th of December - very excited to be going home - and arrived at 5:30am on the 11th of December (just to keep our family on their toes).

We spent the first 2 weeks staying with Manu's sister Fleur and her family, then the next 2 weeks with Anita's parents. We had so much fun hanging out with Fleur, Roger & Miles - it was wonderful having sit down dinners and just 'shooting the breeze'.

Anita's brother (Gavin) flew home from South Korea for the wedding - which was very special as it was the first time in over 2 years that the family had all been together. He'd been teaching English in South Korea and decided that he would fly home for the wedding and stay in NZ to get a job in IT. He's since secured a job as an Analyst and we hope he's doing well.

Amongst everything else we actually managed to see some friends and have a some brief patches of time to relax although the wedding was never far from our thoughts.

One place that was super choice was Snow Planet (http://snowplanet.co.nz/) - very groovy to be getting some snow action in the middle of summer :)

Thursday before the wedding was the hens night - Anita was dressed up and paraded in a fluorescent fairy outfit. The girls went out for dinner (yummy Thai food) and then down to the Viaduct for drinks at the only happening bar in town. Anita had some activities to complete - ranging from dancing around a pole and being handcuffed by a policeman.

Manu was also out that night on his bucks event - his groomsmen thoughtfully dressed him as Superman and paraded him around Ponsonby and Auckland City. He also had a number of activities to complete during his night - which he successfully completed - they included removing womens bra tags with his teeth to spell ACDC, and obtaining a pair of womens knickers (luckily he bumped into his betrothed and scored hers).

The next day (Friday) was busy with last minute preparations and the wedding rehearsal. It was great to practice the events of the next day - very reassuring indeed. Not a lot of beauty sleep for us though - we were up late making sure everything was going to be just right.

The next day Manu was up bright and early - a pie for breakfast, nine holes of golf and lunch with a couple of his groomsmen was greatly enjoyed, followed by a short relaxing break at a cottage next to the venue before getting ready with the rest of his 'men'.

Meanwhile Anita enjoyed some beauty sleep (not that she needed it) and got ready at her parents place with her bridesmaids. A lovely car ride to the venue left a little bit of time for some pre-wedding photos.

Before we knew it the ceremony was over - we'd done it before so it wasn't too hard :), the jazz band was entertaining our guests and the reception was starting. Big thanks to Anita's brother who videoed the proceedings with a very steady hand.

The rest of the night went very well, lovely food, lots of dancing and fun with friends (plus a few drinks of course), culminated in the traditional New Years countdown and a very tired Anita and Manu retired to a cottage for a couple of quiet drinks.

The next day we opened the presents during an informal brunch at Anita's parents house. A lot of people dropped by and it was great to catch up all over again :)

Our last week we tidied up some odds and ends, spent some quality time at one of the groomsmen's family bach (Whiz Boing Bounce with a Walrus twist was greatly enjoyed), had some farewell dinners and finally got back on that plane which seemed to have landed mere days earlier.

Now I'm sure you have been wanting to see some evidence that what is mentioned above actually did occur. You can see them at http://www.flickr.com/photos/manuerwin/sets/72057594062803939/

Oh almost forgot - check out the professional wedding photos at http://www.karamika.recentweddings.photoshare.co.nz/

Our January experiences will be posted next time as they pale in comparison to the heady times noted above.

cheers,
manu and Anita
